The Vashon Island School District is gathering community feedback to help inform long-range facilities planning and potential future capital improvement projects. This survey is intended to collect community input only. No decisions have been made regarding a future bond measure, project list, or funding amount. Why plan now?

School faciltiies takey ears to plan, fund, and build. Planning today helps the District responsbily manage rising cosntruction and operating costs, protect communicy investments, and prepare schools to serve students for generations to come.

Key priorities identified

• McMurray Middle School
  Built in 1969, McMurray Middle School no longer fully supports today’s educational programs. There is no dedicated kitchen or commons space that can accomodate the entire student body, and learning environments no longer meet today’s educational needs.
   
• Vashon High School Gym
  Built in 1961, the VHS gym is a core learning space that no longer fully supports today’s educational programs. The facility has significant accessibility challenges and issues, aging systems that are well beyond their useful lifespan, and limited space to support physical education, athletics, and community activities.
   
• Modernize for Environmental Impact
  Aging building systems increase energy use and operating costs. Modernizing building systems, improving energy effciency, and expanding solar opportunities reduces long-term operating costs while supporting enviornmental stewardship.
   
• Improve Safety and Security
  Safe and secure schools support student learning and well-being. Potential improvements include secure building access, emergency communications, security technology, and other facility upgrades.
