Vashon voters overwhelmingly approve EP&O levy renewal

Vashon Island voters overwhemingly lent their support to the Vashon Island School District by approving a four-year Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) levy renewal. King County Elections certified the results with 77.16 percent approval-rate—the highest approval percentage in years. Additionally, 42 percent of eligible Vashon voters took part in the decision, the second-highest percentage of all the special elections held in districts across King County in February 2026.
Interim Superintendent Jo Moccia thanked the island community for its clear statement of support.
“Since arriving in Vashon, I have been told that our community is supportive of our schools,” Moccia said. “The passing of the levy by such a wide margin is another tangible demonstration of this support, and students will continue to benefit because of the community.”
Property taxes authorized by the newly-approved levy will continue to fund aspects of the VISD system that the state’s prototypical funding model does not financially support, including but not limited to teachers, nurses, counselors, paraeducators, school psychologists, athletics, and employee benefits.
