Last month, 32 fifth-grade students submitted potential CES logo designs for the 2025-26 school year. A team of CES staff selected five finalists based on creativity, readability, use of color, and representation of the Chautauqua Orcas. The winning design was created collaboratively by four students: Dakota B., Sierra S., Lamai H., and Arden A.
The design will be screen-printed, and CES students and families will be able to purchase spirit wear featuring the new logo soon!

Join Women Hold the Key for an evening of learning, growth, and community action. On October 14, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at the Vashon Theatre, watch bestselling author and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt’s powerful talk based on his book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood.
Haidt reveals how the rise of smartphones and social media has “rewired” childhood, fueling an international adolescent mental health crisis. From the decline of play-based childhood to the explosion of phone-based living, he lays out the evidence behind rising rates of anxiety, depression, and loneliness among youth.
After the screening, stay for a panel discussion with Vashon parents and school counselors Anna Waldman, Yvette Butler, and Tara Vanselow, followed by a community conversation. Together, we’ll reflect on what resonated, share perspectives, and explore what we can do to support the health and resilience of our island’s youth.
