Teachers: Tara McBennett, Sarah George, and Nan Hammett
In StudentLink, students in grades 9-12 work independently to complete their high school course requirements. Each student meets one-on-one with their certificated teacher each week to plan learning and assess completed assignments. We strive to find where each student’s interests and future plans align with the learning necessary to complete all 24 Washington State high school course requirements. Students earn credit (pass/fail) but not grades in StudentLink. Students either at home or on-site in our study hall and library.
Most of our students meet with one or more of our beloved and talented Guided Learning Tutors: Karen Person, Scott Bonney, Daphne Purpus, Kent Chappelka, and Tim Morrison. We are deeply grateful for our tutor program and think it may be unique to Vashon. Some of our tutors volunteer their time, and some are paid by a generous grant from an anonymous islander.
We are excited to be re-opening our building this fall. We will provide for remote contact with certificated teachers for students who need or choose that this year. Tutoring services are on-site. Library, study hall and kitchen are available to StudentLink students for drop-in use. We are open 8:00am-2:45pm Monday through Friday except on PDD days. (See district calendar.) We are located across the parking lot from the pool.
StudentLink students may take one class at VHS if they wish. They are also welcome at lunch, break and clubs at VHS. StudentLink students are eligible to participate in district athletics. StudentLink has its own graduation ceremony, and our students are also welcome to walk in the VHS graduation ceremony. StudentLink students are encouraged to participate in the Vashon Community Scholarship Foundation’s scholarship notebook program.
