• Community Service Projects

Community Service is a district-level graduation requirement at VHS. Recognizing the value that service to others can provide for young adults, VHS students complete service projects related to their interests and values. Projects must be with a nonprofit service organization and provide a minimum of 25 hours of direct service, although students are welcome and encouraged to do more. Many students complete multiple service projects during their time at VHS.

Five simple goals. Significant potential reward.

    • Encourage civic engagement and a sense of personal responsibility for creating the world we want to live in.
    • Acquaint students with the valuable work performed by non-profit organizations in the betterment of society.
    • Provide students with important hands-on experiences that will later apply to the world of work.
    • Extend student learning outside the classroom walls.
    • Ensure each student establishes a community connection where their knowledge, energy and skills are recognized and appreciated.
